anybody know the hood star trick?

hey guys im from new york and you can only imagine how bad it can get on some new york neighborhoods, but anyway i was talking to a guy once and he told me that you can connect the hood star to the battery and if someone moves it to the side or rotates it (in order to steal it) it engages in power and zaps the ... out of you, any body know how to properly do this? if so you'll never have to worry about a missing hood star, plus is cool

Hello e,

What a bad idea. Maybe it won't be the first person shocked by your hood ornament, but eventually someone with revenge in mind will find a baseball bat and...

Good luck,

Dave

I agree: that's a bad idea. Not to mention that shorting/grounding your battery circuit could potentially cause a fire, blow up your battery, etc.

You want to keep people from stealing the star, I think the better thing to do is to buy the one that is removable, then snag it and put it in your pocket when you leave the car in an exposed area.

Not very well thought out idea, as the person tampering with the star will only get 12v which they wont feel ,but the resulting short to earth will probably kill your battery or cause a fire. Explain that to your insurance company!!!.

It ain't the volts, it's the amps baby. And a car battery can provide quite a jolt.

That said, it's not a very good idea for all the reasons indicated.

OrangeMarlin,
Next time you are near your battery try holding both terminals, nothing happens because you are a lousy conductor of low voltage electricity.
