RE: eight years, billions of dollars

I am wondering though when this happened:

"... He is also chief executive of the Mercedes car group, charged with the attempt to recover its status as Germany's leading luxury car brand—a title ceded to BMW a couple of years ago...."

I guess I missed that memo :-)

RE: eight years, billions of dollars

This caught my eye: "Last year the Mercedes division lost €505m ($627m), its first loss in more than a decade."

So Mercedes was losing major money in the early 90s?? Hmm..

"Mercedes now has to cut costs to become profitable again"

So if you thought the last 8 years were bad, just think of the great engineering coming up ahead! What are they going to cut? Management only, or quality control??

Next they'll be saying "This really is a wake-up call" like they said in 2000...
