I Need Offset et help !!!!!!!

I have a 2002 mercedes c240 .. the factory rims are 16 x 7 inch alloy wheels .. i brought 17 x 8 inch aftermarket amg monoblock style chrome rims .. the offset on the chrome rims is et 20 .. my steering wheel starts shaking when I hit 60 mph and above .. I've been told that the reason for this is the offset et number is incorrect .. I am sending the rims back to get rims with an offset et that will fix this problems .. any ideas on what offset et number I should get ?

RE: I Need Offset et help !!!!!!!

Offset should not make them shake.
Are they hubcentric? Did you get them dynamically ballanced?

If the offset is wrong, the rims or the tires will rub on suspension or body parts, but that's about it.

RE: I Need Offset et help !!!!!!!

You should be o.k. with Et 20. Sometimes you might just have a bad tire. Check the bolts? Even new rims can be defective. Were they new? If not, have them re-balanced. If the seller/tireshop made that offset remark, have it done somewhere else, and mount the best in front. Did you hit anything/pothole etc. Start with rotating the wheel(or wheels) with the rear and see if it still shakes. Otherwise you need to have a look at the suspension. For info on wheels/offset check out the net or the tirerack site on top. Good luck, Horst K

You will get much more/better assistance if you post this in The Tire Rack part of the forum.
