Hello,
I went to a local mechanic because of an aperiodic vibration problem at low rpm (below 1000, 2001 W210). They said I need to change the 4 ignition coils, all spark plugs and spark plug wires, and a crankshaft sensors. When I looked at the engine after repair, it seems the ignition coils were not changed at all.
Can anyone let me know how I can identify if ignition coils are changed? I need to know what the numbers on the second row on the coils mean. It looks like an invoice or batch number to trace parts. 5 coils had same numbers and 1 had a different number.
The coil numbers are all the same. The top and bottom numbers are all that matter. Next time someone tells you that a dozen parts all failed at the same time, you might wannna think about taking your car somewhere else...
Whew, it sounds like they did not know, and changed everything they have ever heard of that could cause a problem. Mercedes Dealers are notorious for overcharging but dont go that far. I would find a shop that knows, before throwing parts at it. I think a 01 is a little early to have all that performed on it and did you get all the old parts? A reputable shop does that, even MB does it.
