560SEC GROANING WHEN COLD

When cold the front of the motor emits a (moaning/whirring)groaning sound, pully on aircon replaced, alternator taken out, still there, could it be water pump or timing chain ? any opinions from owners gratfully received. It comes and goes some mornings

Post this on the w126 forum. You will probably get a better response. BTW post some pictures of your w126[:)]

My airpump likes to make noise when cold. But do post in the W126 forum.

RE: 560SEC GROANING WHEN COLD

Hey, Franky.

Welcome to the forum!

As a quick check...and I do mean quick, you wouldn't want the engine to run for long like this, you can remove all of the accessory (fan) belts and then start it up cold. If it's quiet, then you know it's nothing internal. It could be a tensioner/idler bearing; for that matter I've heard old, stiff fan belts make noises when cold that could be described as groaning.

Take care and enjoy the down-under ride,
Greg

You describe exactly what my 560SL was doing, before I changed the fluid and filter on the power steering.

Where is it again that we are going... And why are we in a handbasket?
