Oil change interval questions

Sorry if this may sound stupid, but I'd rather get the information than risk anything.

I got my 2001 W203 Sport this summer and the dealership gave it a fresh oil change when I got it, but I played it safe and got another one done after about 5000Km of owning the vehicle.

I dont know how often I am supposed to be changing the oil, I checked the manual and it doesn't seem to have that info, even though people keep telling me it does.

I also am not sure of how exactly the flexible service system works. I heard it warns you 30 days in advance of needing an oil change, but I'm not sure.

My car has 98K on it and is due for Service B in another 700Km.

Thanks.

RE: Oil change interval questions

Mercedes will recommend Mobil 1 0W-40, which is a 15K oil.

RE: Oil change interval questions

Hey, Versus.

The FSS will tell you when to change based upon how you drive. Lots of short trips and the interval will drop, mostly highway, it'll go longer. I think the "default" is 10,000 miles, but you also have to use the fleece oil filter. Mobil1 0W40 is the only Mobil1 oil I've seen with a label indicating it meets the FSS (229.5) specification. It's certainly a DIY if you want.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

RE: Oil change interval questions

Also, feel free to peruse the thread entitled "Oil Change Interval". There's some good advice there as well, mixed in with a bit of clowning around..
