Seating transplant - 320 to 300D

I've recently acquired a 1985 300D in great shape, strong engine, nice body, with the exception of the seating.

The driver's seat is in bad shape, the previous owner was heavy and even though the car only has 126k miles (verified) on it, he managed to tear the upholstery and give it a pronounced left lean. The other seats are beat up too, mostly scrapes and dead cushioning.

Now, I've been considering rebuilding them, and may still do that, but I could also buy the seats out of a 1994 320 and try to put them in.

Let's leave the esthetic question out of this, I'll save the original seats so that if the car is ever really restored they can be put back in - I'm just interested in some comfort...

Does anybody have an opinion on what would be required to do the transplant?

Looks like the newer seats are powered, are the controls in that model door mounted or seat mounted?

I'd really like to know the dimensions of the new seats, but I'll have to travel to pick them up and the seller won't measure them - maybe some kind 320 owner will give me track and overall dimensions.

Anyway, thanks - this forum was a huge help when I was buying the car, gave me a clue as to what to look for.
