I know this is completely off-topic (sorry) but i wanted to know how you became a Benz technician? What school did you go to for Mercedes training? This is a career i would like to pursue. Thanks.

RE: benz tech looking for side work

well i went to lincoln technical institute for basic automotive training. to be honest this was a complete waste of time and money. the things they teach you i kinda knew already. unfourtunetly most places will not hire techs without some type of formal training. then i went to work at volkswagen on the internship program and then after 2 years i went to work for benz. there is a test u can take if u graduate in the top half of the class to go into the elite programs. to be honest that is also kinda a waste of time. hands on expierence is much better than sitting in a class room. wherever u go u will start off as a trainee and will work with a tech. hope this all helps and makes sense.

Thanks for the info. Another question, did you actually participate in the ELITE program, or was that not necessary for you to get a job with Mercedes-Benz?

I'm just not sure what direction to take, ie, go get ASE certified from a community college, then try to get accepted in the ELITE program, OR go to a technical school like UTI or Lincoln Tech, OR participate in a dealer specfic program (Toyota, Ford, GM) that integrates instruction and training with a dealer over a two year period, then try to transfer to MB after a while with Toyota. Hmmmm........
