Head light Change

Can anyone out there advise please, as the "experts" at Mercedes Germany and UK have passed the buck to this question. I am wanting to take my 2004 C230 Kompressor back to the UK from the US and to conform to UK specs the head lights must be changed so they dip to the left and not the right, sounds simple .... but the Mercedes service manager here locally expressed an opinion that the on board computer system may not accept the change and likened it to that of a PC and the adding of a new printer ..the system must be programmed to recognize and accept this change.. and this cast doubts which to date having asked the question to whom I figured was the right people has been met with absolutely zilch information.. I don't need the embarrasment of shipping the car back to the UK and all that involves and not being able to register it.
Can anybody help please.

RE: Head light Change

Not sure what changes would be required for HID lights, but for standard halogens, the headlight lenses, or the entire headlight units, would have to be replaced.

What are MB people telling you? This swap has nothing to do with the on-board computer.

You can purchase European headlight units from a few vendors. Some of these units come with wiring adaptors, so no wire altering is required. Just make sure that the lights are for right-hand drive cars.

Do your own research on this subject before you talk to MB "experts". There is plenty of info on automotive lighting on the WWW.

RE: Head light Change

Refer your Mercedes folks to WIS document AH82.10-P-0001-01A, "Converting Headlamps for Journeys Abroad."

"The headlamp conversion is effected mechanically on vehicles with a clear glass lens. The mobile covering is displaced by moving a lever. The mobile covering then covers the part of the light beam responsible, by means of corresponding reflection, for the illumination of the edge of the road.

The lever is located immediately next to the lamp and is accessible after removing the cover on the headlamp housing."

Folks in the UK will be more familiar with this procedure as clearly they do it more often.
