RE: Getting a cheap car
Tow companies frequently have auctions of cars that were towed away for parking illegally or driving intoxicated; here in WA State if you are caught driving with a suspended license, they impound it and by law hold it 30 days after which owner must pay towing fee, fines plus 30 days of storage. So many of those can't afford to get their cars back and therefore lose it. Legal theft!! Towing co. then owns it and auctions it off. You can get some great cars cheap, you just have to know what you're looking at and be willing to gamble a bit. I saw a REAL nice 1985 MB 500SEL sell for $850, the guy kept it a month and a half & sold it for $4000. Some are junk or worn out you must examine carefully. Auto auctions not hosted by tow companies can have some junk but some good stuff too, you have to stick to basics: Examine as carefully as ytou can, and only bid what yuo are willing to gamble. That's what started me on my MB kick, I went to an auction last year & saw a nice 300TE & it went for $3000 and it had 17K miles and was Mint! I didn't win the bid on that car but now I have 3 MB's of my own. Looking for my fourth. I know some friends who make a living buying cars at those auctions, polish 'em up, tune-up and resell. $$$$$$$$$$ [:)][}:)][;)]
