Sticky wiper

Hi, Aaaaaaaaaages ago, I posted something asking about my wiper problem (wouldn't work on intermittent, only on full and never stops when told (!) and also anywhere on the windscreen, damn annoying!

Anyway, still haven't got round to fixing it and lost really useful hints/tips and website link telling you how to clean it all, oil it etc, any one any ideas?

I am at the end of my tether, had the problem for a year!!!

RE: Sticky wiper

most probably a bad relay. you have two for the wiper system. one controls the ON/OFF and the other is for the speed. the relays can be found on the fuse and relay box on the engine compartment. these are labeled as L(wiper relay, stage 1 and 2), Q(wiper ON/OFF relay). i believe these are yellow colored relays.

here goes again, bloody computer cut me off! You might have a two-part problem, firstly as someone suggested you might have a relay problem where the intermittent wiper problem is concerned and you should take it to an auto electrician; trouble is he will only buy a new relay costing maybe £200 whereas often a used one will do (from a Merc wrecker..)
Secondly where the wiper stops 'anywhere' on the screen, you might have a non-lubricated wiper post, and that's VERY easy to fix: you know when the wiper is at the top of the screen and does it's little up-down-up dance? Well that's because it sits on a short (about 4") post and that post sometimes gets very dry, so dip a finger in some grease or thick oil and feel around the base of the wiper blade stalk and wipe the grease on that stalk.
Other problems can be to do with the wiper gear box and that's a lot more difficult; let me know how you get on..
