Asian, do you know how it interacts with the rain sensor?
The Rain-X or the rain?

And are you testing me?[:)]

RE: Wipers

Clean your windshield with acetone. Be careful not to get any on plastic parts. It sounds like you have some chemical pollution on your windshield that regular soap and water will not remove. If you can't get acetone without filling out a 100 page anti-terrorism threat application, then try Greased Lightning. It will remove most industrial residues, rancid cooking oil (yep, it settles on cars parked too close to restaurants, etc.) and other crap that settles from pollution. It wouldn't hurt to clean your new blades with GL but don't put acetone on those! Once you have your windshield clean, WAX IT with regular automobile wax. This should stop your problems.

BTW, I know some swear by Rain-X but I found that stuff to be more problematic than it's worth. On dewy mornings, it smears to the point you can't see out if the sun hits your windshield.

RE: Wipers

why does a wiper blade chatter, rub, etc? low
moisture, dirty windows, gunk on blade, hard rubber
blade....etc. be sure you clean window and blade!

my blade on 99 E320 rubbed and made noise in all but the
heaviest rain. i ordered new Bosch blades but while
they were still making its way to me, I looked for temp-
orary relief from the noise.

I sprayed silicone on the blades and massaged it into
the rubber. it acts as lubricant and like lotion or
skin moisterizer to the rubber. Rain-X has silicone.
i applied the silicone while watching TV and spent about
15 mins. then i let it sit overnight and reinstalled
the blade.

no noise!.....and this old blade has been chugging away
again for 1.5 yrs, with the new Bosch blade still in the

can of spray silicone at HOme Depot for about $4

RE: Wipers

A bent blade arm or blade suspension mechanism is also a common cause of wiper chatter.

RE: Wipers

Here in the Pacific northwest we are in the Rain Capital of the World. Rain-X is great stuff, it lubricates the glass and the rubber. If your wiper squeaks against the glass you must try it. You wipe it on the clean glass with paper towels, then wipe off the excess. For a day or two it may look smeary, but after that it clears up and your wipers will glide smooth and quietly. If there's one thing that drives me crazy, it's wiper rubbers that squeak all the way across the windshield! Also, if you are in the rain and traveling at least 15-20 MPH then you will see the water drops can't stick to the glass, and the air pressure will blow the water away, it's cool to watch... and you'll need your wiper action a lot less. Turn the wiper speed down & save the wiper motor. Once I had wipers that quit working and couldn't get new wipers for over a month, that's a lot of rain here in Seattle, I used Rain-X & drove 60 miles a day with no wiper motor at all for 40 days. I don't recommend going without wipers -but Rain-X is wonderful stuff. If you try it you'll like it, especially if you live where it rains a lot. Don't breathe the vapors and don't get a lot of it on your skin. [^]
