2005 E-320 CDI defroster and operation

Okay, I have the defroster turned on and it works but it puts out nothing but heat in any setting virtually heating the car up like a oven. The dealer says this is what the car does. I have two other vehicles non Mercedes that the temperature is adjustable so you can have the damn thing on without leaving the windows down from the heat. Is this the case? Thank you.

Defroster should be full heat only.

Not 100% sure on your car but on older MB the defrost is for defrost only. Meaning all heat all the time. There is also another button on older MB that has two arrows pointing north and south. This is for ADJUSTABLE heat that flows through the defrost, midvents and floor.

Take the few minutes and read your owners manual.

If you're talking about the pushbutton front defrost control it's purpose is maximum/quickest defrost. It will ALWAYS be maximum heat.

You're supposed to turn off the button and then rely on normal heat--some directed to windshield--for "demisting." Only the latter is contolled by temperature selection.

If you survey a bunch of European cars you'll always see the result of regulations requiring an easily determined path for max defrost. It's always and obviously max heat.

Understand of course the difference between defrost and demist.
