RE: S-Class S/W Mode?

Quite possible (just like in traction control) it does in secondary stage, but primary reaction is applying brakes.
Seems that traction and ESP works on the same principals, just take the data from different sensors.

OK, also I heard that the manual over-drive gears should only be used in emergancy for engine braking. Any thoughts on this? Also in the mercedes manual, it says it has 5 manual gears, wheras in reality its 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, D!!!
Mercedes seemed to claim in the opposite way but in fact old 5 speed AT in W220 does not have manual mode. What you could do is choosing the range of gears like all other automatic transmissions! Try to accelerate while your instrument showing 4th gear. It will not down-shift and accelerate quite normally as it is D-Mode. Therefore there is no 5th manual gear. When you choose "4" it has 1-2-3-4th gears and with another gearstick movement to the right direction you have "D" with 1-2-3-4-5th gears. That's all.

I think what Mercedes did was quite stupid saying that you have manual mode on that transmission.

->Merc is the way to go
