RE: Need your advice
I drove my beloved '72 Olds Delta 88 convertible from Los Angeles to New York and it was a memorable drive. Why don't you do that, time constraints? From memory,I think there was a service available with Amtrack, but it was quite a few years ago.
What I can tell you is that my Olds was totally rust free in California, but after it's first winter on The Island, that salty road wash found it's way into every sand-blasted nook and cranny and the poor thing looked like it had contracted some horrible ageing disease.
It's a tough call.Three years is a long time to lay up a car and your tastes and needs may change in the interim.I agree with my friend Snips. It can't be such a big step for your wife to take a test in a manual,in which case either drive or ship the Benz to NY and enjoy it.You could probably persuade me to drive it for you come to think of it!
