Importing Grey Market S600 into Canada?

Hi Guys,

Long time lurker but first time posting!

My brother in Law is looking at a 95 S600 Coupe that has been imported into the US via a registered importer. It is a legal grey market car, he intends to bring it back to Vancouver B.C with him if possiable, we have imported cars from the US before without any hassle but not sure how they view grey market cars (Canadian Customs)

Basically can anyone tell me if this has been done before suscessfully and if so a "heads up" for any potential fish hooks we may encounter?

Technically the car is eligable under the RIV system, my only concern is with the recall clearence letter, and who would issue it...

Any help is appreciated

It's not really worth it. Please consider the taxes you must pay on the vehicle and the excise taxes, shipping fees and insurance, inspections.

I thought it would be swell to get an M3 from the states, but I figured it out and it was 200 dollars more expensive than just buying it straight up from a local dealer.

Freude am fahren!

I think that all you'd need to do is contact the MB HQ in country of original with the VIN and they usually will fax back your letter. I read on the web less than 1 in 5 actually even get asked for the letter.

I don't think 1995 S600 is admissible to Canada from US. Please go to , it will tell you what vehicle is admissible and what is not. Do check that out before you import any Mercedes to Canada. I have some experience about importing vehicle to Canada, it is not difficult but you need to know what you need to do. For example duty & tax for non US made vehicle is 6% plus GST. It is the best if you can drive the vehicle back intead of shipping it. The price for cars in US is not necessarily cheaper after all the tax, duty, modification, shipping etc., but it certainly has more selections.[:)]
