Engine Sohc or Dohc

I was told alot by others that the Single overhead cam is better than the Double overhead cam. Now I thought the Dohc is better because it has more horsepower and Torque numbers and its a better engine of course. The reason I ask is I like the new C350 but some tell me that the C320 is better because those engines are pretty much the older versions and realiable and dont have alot of stress like the DOHC because of the Rpms. Are they just messing my head or they dont know and am I right that DOHC is the way to go.

RE: Engine Sohc or Dohc

Old M112 engine with three-valves is more like a "calmed down" cruising engine which feels better in low-rpm-range. New M272 line-up is more like a performance engines serie. Interestingly they also burn less fuel than older engines while having much more power. The point is their four-valve design and of course better engine management with DOHC. With four-valves these engines like to turn more rpms too.

Reliability in the long term is a question for now but as far as I see there isn't any bad signals about these machines.

RE: Engine Sohc or Dohc

I don't think reliability is directly affected by whether an engine is DOHC or SOHC, it is more the design, materials, quality and driving habits I'd say. I never really liked the old 320 engine, I thought it was too lazy, the new 350 engine is peppy and sporty. I'd definately take the C350 myself.
