Range of smart key for opening or locking doors

I know that I can lock or unlock my car using the smart key from at least 200 feet away by pushing the button....and it can do it through an intervening glass window. Can it also see around corners in a parking garage?

But, how close to I have to have the smart key to the car before I can unlock the car by just touching the door handle? Or, lock it by touching the black button?

Remote Key Range.

I have the same issues as well. I recently purchased a new key from the dealership. The old keys wont work at all or should I say, they would start the car but wont, lock/unlock the doors. The new key would atleast lock/unlock the doors and start the car as well, but I have to hold the key within inches of the door handle.

Can someone tell me what could be the issue and how should I fix it, please?

You could tell which car you are talking about. In any case battery power is needed on the keys for opening/closing doors while starting the car works without any battery within the key. So it could be a dead battery in your old key.

But if a new key also works poorly, it sounds like the RF receiver antenna was not working well. But your car may not have any.

Anyway this is quite different from what Corkscrew asked. When opening doors with the remote, the key (in his car) sends an RF signal that can even pass corners (radio wave reflections) or passes through walls (that are not metal). But the keyless go key works a bit opposite way, the range is intentionally very limited, the car would need to detect if the owner is on one or the other side of the car, or at the rear.

I think Corkscrew is talking about smart CARD, or whatever the new technology is called.
We, normal folks don't have it our cars. It was introduced about 4 years ago

Regardless, your RF range for unlocking and locking the door with the remote is around 200 ft, through walls around wall ets. Your IR signal for rolling the windows up and down is about 30ft but it must be aimed at the IR reciever on the door. Your KG signal(for unlocking and locking by touching the handle) is limited to within 2-3ft of the driver or passenger door or trunk.

Yes, that is still Keyless Go. It was an old post, probably talking about the V220 where it could be the card. Actually now the card has been changed to a smart key that looks the same as the standard smart key. You can even use it like the standard key in the ignition slot. A plastic cap can be put to the slot and then it works without the key in place. The cap works as a start button instead of the button at the gear stick like on older models.

I was test driving a 2005 clk cabrio and the remote can only unlock door from the passenger side. When standing on the driver side, it doesnt work and i had to walk over to the passenger to unlock the doors. Is it the battery or something wrong on the driver side.
