RE: New Old Gullwings?

I saw one on the list for Barrett-Jackson last year. Listed in Hemmings.

RE: New Old Gullwings?

the company in question is most likely HK-Engineering.

they have been the only company in Europe specialising exclusively in the 300SL series for the past twenty years. ground-up restorations and custom-made gearboxes are a walk in the park for these guys...

i seem to remember Mercedes Enthusiast magazine in the UK reviewing one of their restored 300SLRs...

I remember sometime back reading in a magazine about some company that either retrofitted old Gullwings with new mercedes engines, electronics, ect.. or possibly they made a replica with new mercedes parts. Anybody know of this sort of thing?

At least it wasn't the cliche chevy 350ci conversion that you see on so many cars. I always feel like that is a redneck way to add more power, rather than learn a new engine and how to tune it, just shove somethin in there i can throw some cherrybombs and high cfm carbs.
Thanks for the stereotyping there MYFIRSTBENZ. There is nothing wrong with putting the most race proven motor on the planet in one of the most stylish cars on the planet. Of course if you have to be a purist, you have to discount Cobra, Pantera, Maserati, Cunningham, Lotus, new Rolls, new Bentley, Noble, and so many more pure exotics that aren't 'blueblood'.
