How to open, pop the trunk on a Mercedes with a dead battery. I jump start cars on my job. Last week we had an older, bigger Mercedes with a dead battery, the driver could not open the trunk with the key. I think he ended up having the car towed. Later I googled this problem, and the google indicated that you can power the system by placing a 12 volt source on the starter.

Last night I got a call with a customer with a Mercedes C230. Same thing. Dead battery, trunk would not open with key.

I was not going to go under the car to try and find the starter. However, I found a small plastic cover hiding some electrical terminals located over the drivers fender under the hood.

I took the cover off, tested one of the terminals for voltage and got a 5 volt reading. I hooked up my portable jump start unit to the terminal with plus to the terminal and negative to the engine. The driver then used his remote and the trunk popped up? Mission Accomplished.
