I have a much better solution than a car cover.I call my car 'Dirty Gerty' (Gertrude is a good Tutonic name)so I never get tempted to wash the thing and make the name sound inappropriate.
thats true. If you have a layer of dirt around the car, it is protecting its original paint job.

My cars:

BLACK 1996 S500 (W140) - Sold

BURGUNDY 1989 560 SEL (W126) - Sold

RE: "new" car

I guess if it was really thick dirt it'd help prevent damage from sitting out in the sun, too.

Worth considering...

It's a funny looking cover - half of it is cream colored and the other half is bright green.. but hey, it doesn't scratch it even if there's dirt on the car, and it saved me several bucks that I need for other stuff more.
It's a labor of love. Glad your grandma did that for you. Well I hope you'll figure out a way to anchor the cover and prevent it from being blown away.

Past ride:

yea. i guess, but then if you are in some nice clothes, and you accidentally have your arm fall against your car, you will get your sleeves all dirty.

But if you are going to get a thick layer of dirt on it, i suggest you talk to some ML and G class guys who are hardcore offroaders.[:D]

I think for the time being I'll just continue driving myself half-insane by caring for it as well as I can... I hate the thought of my paint being eaten by acidic dirt or something.

yea. but you should seriously get a car cover if you dont have any shelter for your car. It will be worth it. They are not that expensive.

That car is in pristine condition! I am also getting a benz as my fist car, going to be shipped up to Colorado Springs from houston. It's an '82 300D. CONGRATS. I also thought my (now, very loving...lol) parents wouldn't let me get one. They are amazing vehicles. My buddy has a '92 300D and both he and I are in love with it. The older models are where it's all at baby. Again, congrats.[;)]

very cool. a benz is the best car to have as a first car. I know you will have a great one, and enjoy it very much.

RE: "new" car

Congratulations, Michael. That's a great looking car.

Btw, if you can't keep the cats off the car, keep the cat's claws trimmed. A neighborhood cat has gotten to both my Benz and my Z3.

I've got a carport but not a garage. The Benz has a cover now and I've ordered one for the roadster, too.

I tried something called a Catstop that's supposed to keep cat's away via some high frequency sound that's activated by a motion sensor. Complete waste of money.

RE: "new" car

Congrats on your car! It looks great. A co-worker of mine has 1 similar to yours. He loves it. It's his daily driver & it gives him few problems. I think he has 241k on The Machine.
