To serve and protect doesn't exist anymore.
There was no money to make on your faulty light.

RE: Cops more merciful on Mercedes drivers?

I can say that on one recent trip to Vegas, I asked myself the same question. Had the cruise set at 85 in a 70 zone. Following some guy in an Accord, back some. CHP passed me like I was standing still, lighted up the Accord. Usually see them coming , but this guy came out of nowhere. I'm sure the guy in the Honda was pissed.

I hate unmarked cruisers. What I hate even more is those civilians with Grand Marquis, and Crown Vics, so you never know when it's actually a cop.

well the ones that are cops usually have chromed rear view mirrors, like the ones on cop cars.

When you drive 20 above the limit and see Crown Victoria closing on you, than the chances that this is a cop are like a million to one.
pentagon had more luck, than I did. On the same (?) I-15 I was doing the same 85 with the group of about 12 cars. Have seen the cop closing for about a mile, but according to law, he had no right to pick one from the group, so I stayed "quietly" at the end of the herd.
Wrong me - after giving me a ticket for speeding, he answered, that I was pulled over from the group, because I was changing the lanes. Didn't explain if he was talking about the same day, or the day before.
The safest way is to get working radar detector (like ValentineOne) to detect cops coming from other direction and do about 30 above the limit, so they can't get you from behind.

RE: Cops more merciful on Mercedes drivers?

You know, and this is only a general observation, people driving MB's are usually quite reasonable. You don't see them doing stupid crap, usually a good "spatial alertness" to them (much like a aircraft pilot). Granted, you get the occasional older lady that seems to be in another world (being in line at Starbucks comes to mind), or the young punk with tons of $ and no reasoning. But generally, and I learned this during my tenure as an MB service advisor, people driving these autos are the kind of you wouldn't mind driving your kids around. They are reasonable, don't take chances, and realize that their autos are more capable of most others on the road. Occasionally, they take advantage of it - when conditions are right. I think police observe the same generalization.

Sorry Kajtek1. Were you weaving in and out? I tend to just go with the flow of the "fast" traffic, then drop back a bit. And a radar detector won't do you a lick of good in the SoCal desert - they don't use it, they pace.

WRONG! I was under the same impression for years, till from about a year I commute between SF ans SD areas. It come to quite a surprise seeing police cruiser making an U-turn on I-5 and getting the guy he clocked with the radar.
When you pay an attention, you notice that some parts of wide central divider are cleaned better, than the others. All cruisers on the freeway have radars on in both directions. BEWARE.
