RE: Cops more merciful on Mercedes drivers?

KADE- That's how my dad's friend feels. When he or his wife is driving, they got pulled over for some reason. But it was really to see if they own the car or not, and the cops came up with some BS for pulling them over. The car they drove, a brand new black S430.

If I ever get pulled over, my Air Force recruiter told me to tell the cops something like "I'm just a few months away from basic military training and it would hurt my career if you give me a ticket" He said that would definately work.
Sometimes that works.I got pulled over many years ago for improper take off (burn out) and I told the cop I was in a big hurry because I was going to miss formation and be considered AWOL.

the car is Red.

I've got pulled over for speeding, while driving behind a bus at the time, when a pickup on the fast lane was passing us.
The cop followed us for about 2 miles from the trap, before he decided to pull me over. The radar readout "got erased" and he couldn't show it to me.

RE: Cops more merciful on Mercedes drivers?

Generally speaking, I don't think it really makes much difference these days what one is driving. Cops are so well-trained that they will stop any car that is doing something wrong or suspisious. But I did have an interesting experience many years ago that I would like to relate: I was diriving my new 280SL from San Fransico to Reno. Somewhere in the mountains near the NV state line a CHP officer pulled me over. He said he was going about 100 mph and I was still pulling away from him. (I believe I was crusing around 105 or 110 mph at the time.) He said he owned an older Mercedes-SD and had always wanted to see an SL. We spent 15 or 20 minutes (sitting on the hood of his cruiser) talking about MB cars. My girlfriend, at the time, was sitting in my car and I told him I needed to get going. He never mentioned a violation or citation, but did tell me to "keep it under 100 until I hit the NV state line." I doubt that that would happen today.

RE: Cops more merciful on Mercedes drivers?

The car you drive definitely makes a difference with the police. I have some family and friends that are cops and they say that while it doesnt really matter if its a Mercedes or BMW, mainly its somewhat of a stereotype of the car and model.

Meaning, they dont usually expect someone driving a Mercedes, especially the larger models, to be doing anything too overly wrong. Speeding maybe, but not jumping in and out of lanes, racing, cutting over lanes etc that you may expect out of younger drivers.

If they see a C-class thats lowered, blacked out windows, lights coming from the bottom, chrome wheels, etc, then they expect more than likely there will some erratic driving at some point so if its speeding, they assume the person deserves the ticket to hopefully teach a lesson and slow em down.

RE: Cops more merciful on Mercedes drivers?

It also all depends of the local situation.
In one California village you'll find more Mercedes cars, than in whole state of Nebraska [8D]
I remember, when years ago my real estate agent was making an offer on my behalf and the other agent pulled in in Royce-Rolls.
Try to use Mercedes, while going to customer to give him/her a bid on gardening, or housekeeping work?

Its the other way around here. The cops pull Mercedes drivers over all day long, and leave the people driving Hondas and Dodges alone. I wish I knew why.
