RE: LQQKING FOR NEW OR USED MBZ SMART KEY REMOTES, ANYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got quite the education when my dealer ordered the wrong one as a replacement. It wiped out my other good one. I also experienced the learning times when they gave me my repacement, I gave them my old one and went home. Thats when everything went wrong. They re ordered the remotes and I left the car, my service advisor claimed "there can be some real problems" and the parts manager showed me a box full of remotes that did not work for some reason or other. The 140 CD spends at least 10 pages showing the DAS (drive auth. system) The three rail system with eight codes, how the codes are assigned by the VPC, replacing the system if more than 24 were used and the the communication between the engine control module and the electronic ignition switch and steering collum lock.
As I recall it is in the body or instruments section on the 99 500 section Group 82 Trust me! If you look at the ads on E-Bay the remotes are guaranteed working, not guaranteed to code to your car, they put the responsibility on you getting it coded at the dealership. They key is easy "order it" drive out the roll pin put in the new one.
Many of those remotes are scrap from the parts depots, and many are stolen by valets, since some owners keep the spare in the warranty pouch or glove compartment. A (new) properone with key is less than $200 at the dealer.
