Meat Grinder

Well with the butcher's ground meat being what it is and my love for rare meat I am in the market for a good meat grinder. I have had burgers made from home ground meat and they are definately better and much safer to cook rarer. Does anyone know a good electric meat grinder? I need something able to ground a good size chuck that can last a good while. The two I found on Amazon are http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004RFRX/qid=1137209796/sr=1-30/ref=sr_1_30/104-8220528-1702317?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=284507 and http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007SXIV8/qid=1137210034/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/104-8220528-1702317?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=284507. The second has a more powerful engine, opinions anyone?

RE: Meat Grinder

I've got a really good attachment that goes on my Kenwood Chef.

Most of the bigger mixers, like the Sunbeam Mixmaster and the KitchenAid, take attachments.

You can get lots of different bits taht save having to have different machines.

BTW - shouldn't this be in OT?

RE: Meat Grinder

It probably should be in OT, but the people there are scary lol. Well I used the food grinder attachment once on the KitchenAid Professional 600, 575 Watt stand mixer. It killed the mixer, in fact we just sent it in to be replaced. So I have decided to get a completely stand alone grinder.

RE: Meat Grinder

robocoupe make (made?) a very good grinder, although its more for commercial use (and price!)

the best grinders for home use are hand grinders, usually italian made with a cast aluminium body and stainless wormdrive, crank, and grader. Cant remember the brand, but ill check it out when im at work tomorrow.

usually, if you buy your cut of meat at a butcher (chuck, skirt, flank etc..) you can ask him to grind it for you while you watch.

Cheers,
