Just bought some touch up paint

I ordered some touch up paint for my '89 560 SEL the other day cuz i accidentaly scratched it on the gate near my house. I felt really bad about it, so i ordered some burgundy factory paint from my local MB dealership (Fletcher Jones Newport Beach). It was send from a warehouse in Fontana, Ca. took 3 days for them to get it. Just picked it up today.

i costed me $28 for a small tube and some lacquer . I will start painting it this weekend probably.

On the back of the package, it says:

Quote:
For touching up minor scratches or marks. Shake the touch up stick well. Check the color shade. Apply the paint carefully. After approx. 30 minutes drying time, paint over with clear lacquer.
Here's some pics:

I am very interested in the result of your touch up job because I also have a minor flaw to deal with. Please post again when you have it. Thanks.

I agree... thanks for posting and let us know how the process works out.

I managed to back one of my other cars into my brand-new Mercedes the other day, so you know I'm feeling like a champ lately. [xx(] Anyway I'll be doing the touch-up thing soon...

RE: Just bought some touch up paint

alright guys. I am also looking forward to see how well it works.

I'll be mainly focusing on this area right here. I will post some before/after pics as well.

I actually got a lot of it off with the degreaser, but there is that main scratch right there.

I've got one of this always in my trunk. It's really good especially for the scratches on the plastic parts of the vehicle like the bumbers. In colours like silver you have to be a little bit more carefull because there is a lot of difference between the colour of the car and the touch up paint, and if the scratch is on a door then the result will be not so good looking. My car is azurite blau and works fine. Good luck

RE: Just bought some touch up paint

I'll give you a couple of hints. The touch up paint is rather thick in the bottle-whether laquer or enamel. Tape off the top and bottom of the scratch. Get a can of lacquer thinner for lacquer or enamel reducer for enamel. Pour a little of the reducer in the cap, dip the applicator brush in the paint-the the reducer to thin it out. next apply light coats of the thinned paint to the scratch. Thinning the paint helps it flow into the scratch and keeps you from getting those thick brush marks. Thinning the lacquer paint will also help you match the fade! You may be able to do the same with the lacquer clear. The later touch up paints don't require a clear coat application. When spraying late model clear coat-no reducer required-just hardner. Before applying the paint clean the surface with grease and wax remover so you don't get fish eye! All products should be available at a good auto parts store.
Good Luck and I hope this helps!
