RE: Rebadging or debadging

From what my neighbor (German) has said, in the past it wasnt uncommon to actually "badge down" vice up over here. I dont think its as common a practice anymore.

RE: Rebadging or debadging

I've seen junky GM cars that have had cadillac symbols on them. This is a bit different. I saw a real junker one morning on the way to work. Rusted out, one of the tires was a donut, just an ugly, ugly looking car. As I past it (it literally was sputtering down the road), I saw a bumper sticker in the back window "Yeah, it's a Hemi" -Cracked me up[:)]

Well over here there is two type of de/re badging. One is the ricer type where people will try to up-badging like honda civic to Type-R and crap like that. Just stupid.

The Euro car people had different type of badging thing, where you debaging to make the car just for looks or to hide the power you have. Comes in handy to race or take on people, also sometimes so you dont have to race. Before the merc i had a run in with an S430 who i thought had an AMG body kit only. For some reason he wanted to race my Passat, confused me, but yeah we went for it and i was smoked! Needless to say, i was confused out of my mind bc it was not even a race. We meed up at In and Out and we start talking, turns out the car was actually an S55 AMG that he rebaded it over to an S430 to keep the cops away but also make guys he raced not ready. Also to get a laugh smoking guys like me who thought we had a chance =(

I took the 420 SEL badge off my car and put a 560 SEL badge on. And I've tricked a lot of mechanics and I tricked the people at the dyno for the emmissions test. They wrote 5.6L V8 on the paper, lol. And to the contrary about those honda ricers, most of them probably don't even know what 560 SEL, S500 or SLK means or what AMG stands for. They just look at the car and assume if it's fast or slow. In the case of the W126 4dr, it looks like a slow old man car so they don't even try.

Oh by the way one of the reasons I put on the 560 badge is because I wanted to trade my car in for a 560 and put some cash on top, but I didn't know if I was buying a money pit or not. So I thought why not just buy a 560 badge for 50 bucks and keep the car that I know has no troubles. I know most of you are probably going to say put back the old badge, but I have always wanted a 500ish Mercedes and this is as close as I'm going to get to a 500 or 560 for another couple of years. sorry for rambling on.

Where can I buy a Morris Minor badge? Are the cars still around?

OK, maybe a Yugo badge.

RE: Rebadging or debadging

The only bedaging I would do would be on an E55 AMG Wagon, that way I could win against many a car with them thinking I was driving the E350 wagon. That would just be fun as hell, otherwise I show the badges proudly.

RE: Rebadging or debadging

I saw an S55 AMG rebadged as an S65 AMG. The guy forgot to rebadge the V8Kompressor on the side. Stupid.[:(!]
