3,000 mile changes with conventional oils is pretty much standard, these oils are cheap enough, and shouldn't be run much longer anyway.
Synthetic oils, according to the manufacturer, and Mercedes are good for 10,000 miles or more. We on the SLK board have been going with 3,000 for conventional oil, and 5,000 miles for the preferred Mobil 1 0w-40. Remember oil is still the cheapest consumable your car uses and it just doesn't make sense to skimp on the life blood of a very expensive engine... [:D][;)]
