Need help with oil leak/ 89 300E - Mercedes-Benz Forum

Need help with oil leak/ 89 300E

- Oil is leaking and fan is throwing oil all around inside of engine. I loose a quart every 50 miles. I have good oil presure?? Can not see where it is coming from. Any ideas???

Check where the head and the block meet in the area of the timing cover.

Ike is right, when I got my 90 300E it was seeping there. I think it was an o-ring or gasket or both. That was 5 years ago so forgive my vagueness.
It is a known failure on older W124s.

At 50 miles per quart I would jump on it. That much oil accumulating in the wrong spots could lead to other issues. JMHO

You're right Noodles. As an example, since the alternator has a fan on its snout it actually draws the oil in and pumps it straight through. Yuck.
