Harmonic Balancer Reimbursement

Last year during service of my 2000 E320 I was told the harmonic balancer needed to be replaced. The work was done and it cost $465.91 (3 hours labor and parts $75.91). I recieved the service campaign #2005-020003 letter which said I could get reimbursed for the work done. I submitted a claim to my Mercedes service center and recieved a check for $262.31... $200 less than it cost me to have the work done. I have been attempting to contact the service manager for an explaination but he is not returning my calls.
Has anyone experienced the problem of not getting fully reimbursed for the cost of replacing the harmonic balancer? Or does anyone have any thoughts on why this occured. I guess I will visit the service center and attempt to meet with the Service Manager or maybe contact Mercedes at the phone number provided on the campaign letter
Any thoughts or suggestions

RE: Harmonic Balancer Reimbursement

I'm assuming the initial work was done at an MB service center.
When I had mine in for the same thing, I asked the S.A. about others who had replaced theirs prior to recieving the letter. She maintained it was a 100 percent reimbursement. There may have just been a miscommunication between the two of you.

i received a letter as well, but have not yet brought it in, and i'm afraid they will tell me it doesn't need to be replaced. can you tell me some of the reasons or problems you were having, so i know what to tell them. i have had jerking while driving slow, and my radio and cd acted up along with my heater.

RE: Harmonic Balancer Reimbursement

One of my friends balancer fell off (no damage) he had the car towed to the local dealer (MB palm beach)they admitted nothing, the car was slightly out of warranty. When he got his letter he submitted the claim to the dealer recieved only 2/3, and upon checking, he was told the rebate was only what MB warranty would have paid. The dealer in Louisville that checked the car prior to the trip to Florida, would not get invoved. He now drives a Lexus, evidently there is warranty pricing, and customer fleecing.

RE: Harmonic Balancer Reimbursement

For a major MB part to be defective, one that could potentially cause serious damage to the car you bought from them, it seems to me they owe you a FREE repair and replacement--and a BIG appology! (And then they should hope you don't sue them!!) IMO
