RE: ?????? Looking to upgrade,CLK vs C class sport????

I drove a 98 CLK 320 and my wife had a 98 C280 Sport. Both were very good cars and handled very well. The only problems that I had, and I had them with both were electric. Windows and sunroofs would lose their brains, usually at poor times. I would take the CLK in for reprogramming and they would tell me the windows were programmed for a sedan. Three months later, same problem, same diagnosis, same solution. Lather, rinse, repeat. Somehow, MB decided that default should be something different that up|stop. With all the aftermarket stuff available, either of those cars can be tweaked up to be very very nice without going to higher insurance rates for the 430 or CLK55 or C36

I did drive the CLK430 for a bit as a loaner and it is nice but the extra kick was not worth the extra , money, gas and insurance for my retired self.

By the way, reason I went back to the older cars, I wanted to get back to cars designed, speced and built by engineers, not marketeers and accountants. Much happier now but I don't get to talk to the cute girl at the cashier's counter at the dealer any more.

you know?I feel the same way about the Benz's.Maybe it's the old geezer in me but I have read several publications that remarked on all the high tech gear in the newer models that just aren't dependable.Bye the way luv the sportline.Back in the day I was a Peugeot man.Had 8 in all various models then a few Saabs after that.I like the European cars. This 300E is my 1st Benz (could finally afford one)very happy w/it.
