190D (1999) dashboard indicator lights stay dimly lit at start up?

I noticed this problem yesterday too, but it went away when I started the second time:
when starting my 190D from 1999 this morning, the battery, brake lining and oil level indicator lights stayed on dimly.
When starting again this morning, it did not disappear: the battery light still remained on dimly.
The car seems to be doing fine, so we drove to work, but I tried again at the traffic lights stopping and restarting,
still lights stayed on (I think only the battery one, dimly).
By the time we got onto the motorway it had stopped though, and everything seemed normal.
We left the car running stationary for a little while at the parking space on arrival, nothing happened, all seemed fine.
Stopped the car and started one more time, to be sure:
now all indicator lights, including the one for petrol level, were lit dimly (even though there's still petrol).
So, what's happening here?
Dynamo? Battery (accu)?
Any ideas? My booklet doesn't help at all, it only says things if specific lights stay on...
