HELP with my new 2006 E350

Good Day to all. I am new to this site and this is my first MB, and E350.
When I test drove the car I did not pay attention to the "sounds" of the engine. When sitting in the car at idle I am hearing "knocking", "lifters", "valves"...almost sounds like a mini diesel is running. But when driving the car you can hear it... its only when sitting at a light or in park when rpms are low.

I called the dealer and he said its normal, that i need to "break" the engine in...

Well , Its been almost 500 miles and I am confused and am scared to take it in for the dealer to see...

The car drives great... although i do feel the down shift in the gears when sloweing down... slightly ubrupt in that down to second to first move.. there is a little jerk.

other than that.. car ride is smooth.

any adivce please??? is it just the way this engine is supposed to sound?
thank you all much,
David

PS>..the car is black on black...advice on cleaning exterior would be appreciated too...

RE: HELP with my new 2006 E350

This is very unusual. Last week i test drive a E350 Elegance. This car was not prepared and it did not have the plastic wheel caps on nor the star emblem on the hood (000 Km). And you don not even hear the noise of the engine, when youre standing outside.

My neighbour has a E350 Avantgarde for over six months. When pulls out of his drive, you don't even hear the engine.

There must be something wrong. The dealer has to verufy this noise under warranty.

Packages for European models.

Are you sure you did not buy a diesel E - Class? That would definitely cause the diesel sounds. [:D]

Definately take it in. The transmission should be smooth. There is a common issue with the new 7-speed transmission across the board on all of the models and you will see lots of postings about it. The dealerships have even replaced the whole transmissions in many cases.
