wrecked my benz

I have a 96 320E that was involved in an accident last week. The bumper and side lights are gone but the insurance company is insisting to total it, I want to keep it and work on it slow. Any ideas where I can get affordable parts.
Thanks

RE: wrecked my benz

You should try going to "junk yards" and look for parts there. You could find some parts that aren't even ruined.

RE: wrecked my benz

I wish I had known about this forum before the wreck. I will begin junk searching as soon as I am done with this crazy insurance company.

Ouch, those pics are pretty bad. Don't forget to post in the W210 forum as well. They can help you there as well.

Sorry to hear about yours or anyone's collision.
You may ask your insurance agent about totalling it and if you could get insurance on this automobile again, either through them (doubtful) or another company. Then, ask them about taking possession and trying to fix it yourself. Seems as if you would be much more money ahead, that way.

Good luck.

Joe

I thought once they total it they will keep it, I had replaced wheels with sporty ones and kept it so well, I know they will not give me the amount it deserves but if they can total and give it to, I will take time and fix it slowly. With Michigan winters, I also had a set of tires with bad rims for snow driving.
Thanks for the advice.

Their actions will largely depend on you PROBABLY.
Just tell them that you wish to keep the car for sentimental reasons and you will offer $150.00 for the junk.

They will probably acquiesce as they don't want the hassle of selling it to their normal junkbuyers when a buyer is sitting right in front of them.

Be certain to ask what money you will receive if they total it and the next day, offer them the $150.00 or whatever you think you want to spend to get it. Be aware that this price may not get the car because their junk buyers may offer more since they can 'part it out'.

Good luck.

A front ender! I would let them total it, make sure they didn't shaft me and get another one, possibly newer![:)]

RE: wrecked my benz

Looks like you probably have a good bit of hidden damage there-take it to a body shop that you trust to get an estimate on the frame work and to ensure that you didn't miss anything on your speculation of repairs. If you want to pick up the body parts cheap-go the aftermarket route. Before all the benz-purists scream-if the insurance company totals the vehicle and you buy it back it's going to have a salvage title anyway. Certifit and After-Crash are a couple of suppliers that you can check out on line. They specialize in hoods, fenders, bumper covers, headlight assemblies and radiator supports. Parts are sourced through taiwan but the quality has improved greatly over the years. You'll save a great deal of money going this route!
