RE: MB Service CD's on Line

Hi MBGary,

Your reference to the braingears.com site is interesting. It has great promise as a useful resource, and at a good price too.

I'm a bit puzzled regarding the use of the site however. It seems each time I've tried it in the past, and again today, it looks as though that many of the PDFs are missing. This fact is especially true regarding the W126 model. The index appears intact, but unable to actually access the tech info. I get nothing but 404 Errors from the braingears server (see example sreenshot).

After fiddling with the site for some time/months, I would like to ask braingears: Where's The Beef?, but perhaps I should be asking: What can I do differently in order to access those PDFs?

Have you been able to access any of the PDFs the W126 Index makes reference to? If so, please advise, as I would like to be less sceptical & finally view the braingears.com site as an asset to our W126 community.

Cheers, MBL

RE: MB Service CD's on Line

Just a guess, but you're probably not using Windows to access the .PDF's.

For reasons that escape me -- probably out of carelessness by some third-party -- the links within the HTML on the CD's have been encoded with backslashes in some, but not all, pathnames. Thus a path like:

will work on Windows, which can use either a '/' or a '\' in pathnames, but fail on every other OS currently in use.

If you manually edit the path to:

then everything's fine.

On the W124 disk, there's also a folder 'OM' that's often mis-encoded as 'Om' -- which also is not recognized anywhere but within WinWorld. I don't know if there are folders like that for other models.

It's a PITA, but fixable.
