RE: what line the Mercedes is?
You can tell by the following differences:
The Classic and Esprit have black bump strips running on the top of all bumpers.
The Elegance has colour coded bumps strips and chrome running along the tops of the strips.
The Sport has colour coded bump strips, no chrome.
The Classic and Esprit came standard with steel wheels and plastic hub caps.
The Elegance and Sport both had Alloy Wheels.
The Classic came standard with cloth trim, MBTex (man made leather) was the only option.
The Esprit came standard with cloth usually balck with coloured middle, Red,Blue or Green.
The Elegance standard cloth but leather optional.
The Sport had black cloth as standard with coloured inserts and leather as optional.
The Esprit had lowered suspension.
The Sport had lowered and sports tuned suspension.
The Classic and Esprit had a plain dashboard.
The Elegance had wood trim on dashboard and doors.
The Sport had a kind of metal trim on dashboard and doors.
I hope this helps you out.
