CLK (2005 model) gearbox problems

I bought a new CLK280 about 2 months ago (August 2005). For the first few weeks it was fine, but gradually it developed a clunk as it changed down from 2nd to 1st, particualrly when it was cold and still on the choke. But it can also happen at full working temperature, for example when going down hill a steep hill. In fact I find the 7 speed gearbox randomly changes down and makes for a very uncomfortable drive even in C. On my old CLK 320 the tiptronic gear box was great. But on the new CLK280 the tiptronic lever is slightly off set so it's hard to 'tip' it down a gear; it's more like a physical gear change. My MB dealer has upgraded the gearbox software but that made no difference. Perhaps I should try them again? Does anyone have any suggestions ?

i suggest you bring it back to the dealer and check if the shift 1-2 is adapted already. the tranny behavior you are experiencing could be caused by it. if its not the case, the freewheel F1 and F2 is faulty.
