Silver Star service is TERRIBLE!!!i had my car serviced at Silver Star in Long Island City. I purchased a 06 slk280 R171 from that dealer in June of this year. Then on Oct6th 2005 my check engine light came on.
I called silver star and they they fit me right in for Oct 7th 2005. I waited for the car to be fixed for about three hours in their waiting room. I got the car back and drove off.
While driving that day my check engine light reappeared and to make matters worse,when they put my car on the lift, they must of had an idiot do it, but they popped out mt amg kit on the right side. Ok so now im a little pissed, i wasted three hours of my time waiting to fix a check engine light, not only does it come right back on but they messed up my kit.
So I arrive that Monday morning 10/14/05, no appointment and the people were very nice and took my car in. Now as a customer I did not complain to the manager or the service advisor about my kit, i was nothing but kind and respectful to them. I didnt fly off the handle and start yelling like I see most customers do. They take my car in and promise it to me later that day. Now I learned from last time not to sit around and wait. But before I left I went to my sales associate and told him about my problem. The only reason why I purchased the car from Silver Star is their supposed "great service" and my sales associate knew that. He assured me that the problem would be fixed the correct way this time. So TWO days pass by and finally my car is done. What happened to same day? Im about to leave the service area after thoroughy inspecting my car for any imperfections. My service advisor comes and tells me "I hope it the check engine light doesnt come back on, but if it does dont worry it wont break down, we need some CODES from germany to fix the problem" But she says it probably will not come back on! The minute I turn the corner after leaving the check engine reappears. Now Im pissed, so I call her back with a little attitude and she tells me dont worry the light will turn off in about 25-30 miles of driving dont worry. Being that I missed my car cause they had it for two days, I did what she advised. 50 miles and two days later I call her and let her know its still on. She then tells me they are waiting for codes to be faxed from Germany, she will get back to me in 24 hrs. 24hrs pass, 48hrs pass a 168hrs pass(one week) i still dont hear from her. I left her two messages no answer! Then to piss me off more, one of the people at silver star call me and ask how my recent service was at silver star. Obviously she is just doing her job and knows no better so I refrained from getting angry at her, and let her know the situation. She told me that my service advisor will call me within 24hrs. She never did. Then i got a survey from Mercedes Benz USA asking about me recent survey. I called the 1800 number they gave me and spoke to a representative and told them how bad my experience was in detail. She apologized excessively and said that the problem will be taken care of if not by silver star by another company. The representative gave me the service managers name and number and asked me to tell her, I told the represenative that I didnt want to deal with silver star anymore,so the represenative said she would take care of it.
Low and behold 15 minutes after I speak to her, my service representative from silver star calls me after i left her messages two weeks ago. she invites me to come in on Wed Nov 9, stating that the codes were finally here. I arrived that morning and gave my car, she assured me that it would be done that same day. She calls me later that day and tells me they need to order a ME Modular from germany so i would need to wait 48 hrs and guaranteed my car be finished on Nov 11. I asked for a loaner, and under silver stars rules, only people that purchase cars from silver star get a loaner. But i guess that didnt apply to me and they offer me a Ford escort, i declined after laughing for a minute. Friday comes and the shop foreman calls me not my service advisor. "the part will be here monday we can get you a loaner" so they set up a loaner car for me c240, and guarantee my car on Monday. But before they gave me the loaner I had to sign my life away!!!! Sign this, sign that dont do this and dont do that. I told the loaner guy, that i just wanted my car back! I dont care for your loaner car I just wanted my car back. They were acting like i was taking a CL65 or an SLR with how many papers i had to sign.
Today Monday 11/14 at 10 am my service advisor calls me and tells me my car is done! my friend told me about this site and I just signed up today and wanted to let everyone who is willing to read, about my terrible experience at silver star and how much i dislike them and their laziness and lies. Never will mercedes be my first car of choice, they look beautiful, but have too many problems and too many money hungry,lazy,incompetant liars working for them.
I havent picked up my car yet, so we will see the outcome, but from my experience please beware at Silver Star, or be a raging lunatic when you go to them and immediately see the service manager is the only way to avoid similar problems like me.
they are a bit better than Helms Bros in Bayside, but I dont even want to start about that one!!! they are even worse and got caught taking their customers cars home with them!!!
