Bio-diesel issues

I have read a number of articles regarding the burning of bio-diesel in my 300D and one of the persistent issues seems to be that the bio-diesel
can and will remove the crap that has built up in your tank over a period of time as well as disintegrate any rubber fuel hoses you may have.

Is there a recommended fuel line replacement hose that I should install prior to burning the bio-diesel?

Is there a correct spelling of the fuel? Is it biodiesel or bio-diesel?

I like the idea of alternative fuels, diesel in SC has been at $3.59 per gallon for a month or so.

I love driving the Benz, but the fuel is killing the wallet.

RE: Bio-diesel issues

Spell it anyway you want it. People who know will know what you are talking about.

Biodiesel is not kind to rubber parts. If you wish to start running BD then I suggest replacing hoses under the hood with decent synthetic hoses. I can't tell you what to buy as I haven't switched mine. Also carry an extra fuel filter with you and tools to change on the road.

Why don't you try running a WVO/diesel blend?
Much cheaper. With your weather down there you should be able to run at least 50/50 all year.

RE: Bio-diesel issues

use normal Goodyear Fuel Hose, from autozone....any rubbers made after 1995 or so are extremely resistant to this type of problem, and only require that u check them, like once a year, by removing them, and eyeballing each end, to inspect the condition of its interior......if its bigger looking, or just funny, if u have doubts of its perfection, just change it, since its only 1.95 a foot anyways.......

the under car hose has a screw on fitting, and needs u to buy a new one at the dealer......costs 27 dollars, just check it after a year.....

i burn all sorts of stuff, Waste veg oil, fresh veg oil, b-100 (100 percent) biodiesel, regualr diesel with performance additives, whatever......

GO TO THE w123 FORUM, IF U WANT TO CONTINUE THIS DISCUSSION.......TO THE THREAD AT THE TOP, "OFFICIAL ALTERNATIVE FUELS THREAD", AND POST THERE, WE KEEP THIS BIODIESEL TYPED STUFF IN THERE, SO THAT THE GUYS ALL CAN JUST CHECK THERE, IF ANYTHINGS NEW....THERE ARE LOTS OF GUYS WHO ONLY GO ON THE W123 FORUM, ALTERNATIVE FUELS THREAD, TO LOOK, AND MOVE ON, U SEE.....

RE: Bio-diesel issues

The latest Nov/Dec 2005 Mercedes Benz USA Club's STAR magazine has an excellent definitive article on use of biodiesel in MB cars. Recommend anyone whose interested in using biodiesel in their cars obtain a copy for yourself.

If we can't track down a paper copy of that article, does it exist on the Web?
