RE: RELIABILITY STATISTICS: 06 CONSUMER REPORTS

Consumer Reports is owned by a consortium of Japanese automobile manufacturers. Everyone knows that, right?

...not that that would bias their results, or anything.

Wait a minute!! I thought I owned part of Consumer Reports!! After all, that's what they said when I subscribed to them a few years ago. "As a subscriber of Consumer Reports, you become a member of the Consumer's Union" They implied I actually owned "a part of them through my subscriptions...". Fuggin liars!

RE: RELIABILITY STATISTICS: 06 CONSUMER REPORTS

I think I would like to see some direct evidence of "eolon's" interjection....

It does seem that for years Consumer Reports has given higher marks to the Asian imports, but there was a pretty good reason for this -- they were better built, provided better service, lasted longer, and met our needs better than the hunks of iron being put out by Detroit or the finicky expensive things spawned in Europe. The one beacon was the well built sleds from Stuttgart, that is until Jurgen Schrempp tried to compete with the Japanese.

See the much-hyped Land Rover LR3 is following the same well-trodden path as the Discovery before it. And Mercedes is right down there again with 4 models in the least reliable list[B)]

Consumer reports, just like every car magazine, have their own agenda -- they all answer to bean counters.

RE: RELIABILITY STATISTICS: 06 CONSUMER REPORTS

It's a numbers games people. If the majority of the cars purchased are asian cars then the numbers will be skewed to those cars. If 4 Saturns were sold and one had a problem then that is a whooping 25% reduction in your reliability figure. If 10 Toyotas were purchased and two were bad that comes out to 20%. More cars sold...the higher reliability numbers will you receive. I don't have any numbers to back it up, but just what I see and a little common sense tells me that people in my city drive mostly asian cars.. I just drove my C-class 2400 miles in 5 days. Not one single glitch did have out of any of it's systems or circuits. To me that is what I call a good car. The purist that say the MB's are crap can kiss my C-Class!!
