RE: Favorite Mercedes Benz's Ever??

W stands for Wagen, German for automobile. The use of numbers and letters with regard to model designation has no formal rules or process, however – it is essentially an arbitrary internal chassis/model code. In the old days, 60s, 70s, 80s, the numbers and letters made some sense. A coupe would start with a ‘C,’ roadsters with an ‘R,’ and often a letter would follow the number. A w123d, for example, would be a diesel 123 sedan.

Here was my favorite MB: a 1970 280SL.
I love the 113 roadsters as well, last of the true ‘sport light.’

A BMW representative talking to the press at the Geneva Motor Show in 1990.

BMW research and development chief, Wolfgang Reitzle:
"The laws of aerodynamics must be different between Munich and Stuttgart"... "IF THAT REAR WING WORKS, WE WILL HAVE TO REBUILD THE BMW TUNNEL"

And they did !

hehe

My R129 SL600 in midnight blue with matching interior. Not as elegant as the previous nor current SL but a bucket load more on-road presence.Pure post eighties excess and German fascism...in a good way : )
