I have a 1996 Toyota Tacoma with 280,000 miles that I use for daily general use. I have a 2001 Corvette that I bought in May 2004 for my 30th birthday. It's used for fun, of course. I owe 3 more payments on it and it's MINE!
My wife has a 1990 Toyota Camry that she had when we met. We have a 1 year old son. Her Camry is the current 'family car.' When I go out on nice days by myself, I take the Vette, which is a pleasure to drive, but when we go somewhere as a family, we're in the ol' Toyota. It runs fine, but makes people question why "Daddy's got his sports car and family's got an old jalopy!" Although Daddy's worked hard for what he's got and the Vette was here before Wife and Son, I agree, it's time to upgrade the family car.
Since I gave the wife the notion that we'd be looking into a Mercedes for the family, she hasn't let me dither from that notion. I test drove an 05 C240 at a "Your Job is your credit" dealership a few months ago, but it didn't seem right; no power, not as quiet as I expected inside the car with the windows up, and quite literally a much rougher ride than I expect from Mercedes Benz. Plus, the dealership failed to show me the correct history report. I walked away, and started an online search for an E-Class.
I've learned so much about my Vette; and many other things, from another forum I belong to, and decided to venture out into the Benz forums to see what was out there, and hope to learn much about these cars, too. The styling, history, and mystique of Mercedes Benz is bar none, as far as I'm concerned. My friends and family ask me, "What will you have to look forward to if you get a Benz now???" My answer: "A newer, bigger, better Benz!"
I look forward to pulling the trigger on one within the next 60 days, and I know my wife can't wait! She's just got to accept the fact that her Camry will still be HER car to get around in. When the Benz is paid off, then we'll get something for her.
