Horrible Fuel Consumption Reasons?

C200 Kompressor Coupe year 2001. 80.000km.

Can you experienced people write your opinions about what can cause too much fuel consumption?

"It's like 20-25l/100km (10mpg maybe)"

Spark Plugs
Fuel Filter
Air Filter
02 Sensor

all checked. No problem found. What should we check more?

Thanks in advance.

RE: Horrible Fuel Consumption Reasons?

well, they're 225 in front, and 245 on back. But does it affect the consumption that much?

RE: Horrible Fuel Consumption Reasons?

Have a mechanic with a computer connection check for failure codes.

Your Mass Air Sensor / 02 sensors / Throttle Position sensor or even temperature sensors may be causing the mixture to run very rich.

It can run fine this way - with the horrible consumption of fuel.

Good luck.

RE: Horrible Fuel Consumption Reasons?

My concern is that, there are no errors in the computer at my mechanics, everything seems in the correct ranges. Do you think something invisible is causing it? MAS and 02 sensor seems fine.

First of all I'm doing short trips from work to home, takes 15 minutes maximum each trip. Till the motor gets warm, consumption must be higher, isn't it. (the outside temp is around 8-9 degrees in the mornings these days.

Second, my tires are 225 front, 245 rear.

Third, there's a dense traffic, and I checked my average speed is not more than 25km/h. Can it be effective also?

So under these circumstances, do you think it's normal to consume that much? (around 18 litres/100km or around 13mpg)

Thanks in advance again.

10 MPG with a C200K? I do think there is something wrong, or it might be because of a heavy foot? That is around how much I get with my CLK430.. and I have a lead foot...

PS I have 19 inch rims with 235's in the front and 265's in the rear.

I don't know but it's really annoying. I'm working on this issue for 3 weeks. The computer shows everything as ok. No faults. And I'm really tired of it.

Check for any cracks in the air intake tube. I saw this on one that was getting the same rotten mileage you are. New tube and well over 20 mpg again. The car did not log a code.

RE: Horrible Fuel Consumption Reasons?

Ok I'll check that this evening with my mechanics. Anything else to check on your mind? Thanks very much by the way. I hope it has cracks and this nightmare will be over then. :)

RE: Horrible Fuel Consumption Reasons?

It really sounds like an air intake leak before the MAS. If it is not that I will do some digging around, This should not be a tough problem to trace, but one never knows.
Can you or your mechanic hook it up to a diagnostic computer while it is running? It will show you all the values that each sensor is sending to the ECU. I would bet one of the sensors is way out of range. And once in awhile for whatever reason they do not log a code. That sensor could be the key to this issue.
