...Combi-Switch ($350) for '87 300D-Turbo?

...I took my car for annual $15 inspection and left with a rejection sticker and a quote to replace the "combi-switch" for $350.00.

...my "low-beams" have been very tempermental for the last year or so (they had often turned off when using the "left/right turn-signals." However, after some toggling they would stay on. They no longer come on at all, however, the high bemas work as do the left/right turn signals.

...do I have any options? Or must I pay another $350 for another mechanical/electrical issue? This one unfortunately is one that I can't live without (my rear drivers side window is tempermental - $450 for motor; sunroof failed mid-operation - $1,000 quote; A/C - all quotes have scared me off; etc...)

...anyway, I don't mean to gripe and complain, it's just that owning my "124" is getting frustrating (and expensive). I got her in '97, and she still drives like the dream she's always been - it just that when she needs attention ($$$), my wife gets jealous!

...and suffice to say, I have chosen my marraige over my car. Which means - 1) brutally hot days of sweat during the long hot summers in VA Beach (no A/C; no sunroof; not even all four windows go down sometimes); the threat of rain coming in the window if/when it fails to go up; etc...

...I have insisted on keeping it well-maintained (oil; filters; supsension; brakes; etc...), it just the "creature-comforts" that need attention.

...if anyone is looking for a beautiful, black (w/grey) '87 300D-Turbo (142k), make me an offer!!!

...peace.

Go to eBay and look up item #8005188578. That particular auction doesn't include your car's combination switch, but contact the seller and he might be able to refurbish yours. He charges about $40 for the service, and the shipping both ways is about $10-15.

...thanks guys, but I'm not a "DIY" guy, so I suppose the additional $175 is for installation/labor.

...how hard is it to remove/install this part? What else can I "mess-up" in the process?

...peace.

About a 45min job. The switch is a one piece affair that plugs into a receptacle inside of the steering shroud.
