Replace Waterpump on 1989 300E

I need to put a new water pump on this car. Is there a manual I get get a hold of. Does anyone have any suggestions. Is it true you have to take of the power stearing unit to get to it?? Thanks. All suggestions appreciated.

RE: Replace Waterpump on 1989 300E

In general, it is not a difficult job with the right tools.

General Directions;
- Remove radiator hoses - capture old coolant
- Remove trans cooler lines and plug with stopper
- Pull shroud,it twists off after unclipping.
- Pull radiator - absurdly easy - 4 bolts or screws
- Remove clutch fan assembly
- Loosen belt
- Remove pump assembly. Check the design. I had a W123 with an impeller assembly you can pull from the center of the pump housing and avoid a complete pump replacement.

Here's a link at mercedes shop, but honestly, he makes it look harder than it is....
124 radiator removal ( this is first)

117 water pump job ( harder than the 124 due to distributor interference)

Good luck

Don't use an aftermarket pump. Get a rebuilt from the dealer.

two different gaskets

Hi guys,

Do you happen to know why M/B gives you two gaskets in the box for the SLK320 reman water pump? The car uses a thin rubber ribbon gasket from the factory and the box contains this very gasket and then a flat metal gasket coated with a black sealer. This car is a 2001. I am wondering if the older versions used a flat surface thus requiring the flat gasket.
