Well I think a Mercedes modifided up to the quality and calibur of Mercedes, ricers suck ass, on any car. Performance tuning should be matched with visual tuning. A Mercedes is good if modified in good style. Vintage Mercedes should stay stock, but new ones can be awesome if modified correctly.

As long as you don't need a 100-point car for shows or competitions, even the vintage ones can benefit from some sensible upgrades. My 1972 250C has Weber carbs in place of the original Zenith ones (the new ones are still almost completely hidden by the air cleaner cover), an electronic ignition to replace the original points/condensor model, a pair of louder Fiamm horns, and a set of "Bundt" aluminum-alloy wheels from a later model Mercedes (I still have the original steel wheels and colour-matched hubcaps, though, in case I want to put them back on). There's also a fairly-modern (1994) Alpine CD player to replace the mono Becker Europa.

Likewise, when it comes time to re-paint it, I'll keep the original colour, but I'll have it done in a basecoat/clearcoat finish rather than a "factory-correct" single-stage paint.

All of the changes (except the wheels) are undetectable to the casual observer, but they go a long way toward making the car more suitable for everyday driving.

So is somebody going to honestly tell me they visually enjoy THIS ML over THIS ML?

How about THIS ML over THIS ML?

Mods can be tastefully done without going overboard and looking ridiculous I think.

If you honestly think the "original" pictures look better than the modified ones, I respect that, but don't have the same vision. It's what makes my car MY CAR, not just somebody's.
Well, like they say, "That's why they make different-coloured neckties." Personally, I like the stock pictures better, both the side-view and the rear-view. Visually, the ML is a fairly sedate vehicle, especially in silver. I think the new wheels/tires overpower the rest of the styling cues on the side of the car.

Likewise with the rear, the darker tint (or is that just the photograph?) and the black filler panel between the rear window and the spoiler seem to over-emphasize the "black rectangle over a silver rectangle" shapes that make up the rear-view. Now that there's very little silver visible above the rear window, and the rear window is darker, the horizontal break between the rear window and the silver part of the tailgate seems much "harsher" and more obvious, even though you haven't actually changed anything below the rear window that I can tell (other than the liftgate handle, which I like).

Even though I think some of your visual changes are a little heavy-handed, your opinion is the only one that matters in the end. And don't get me wrong - even I wouldn't consider your changes "overboard" or "ridiculous".

It is just the photograph. It is all factory tint except the two front side windows to match. Depending on the angle in the pictures, they almost seem paint black, but in person they are not.

Totally stock. I can't stand seeing excessive body kits or rims on Mercedes. Unless AMG does it, then it actually looks good.

Here's my one beef with the above comment.

My previous car had a one-of-a-kind fully titanium exhaust (not just the muffler, but the entire piping setup, although the header was polished stainless). Every pipe, every hanger, and the whole thing was incredibly expensive. ($2700+shipping from Japan, which was combined with other parts so it saved me a bit) It looked just like a $40 fart can, and didn't sound much better. But it was FUNCTIONAL.

And that's where I draw the line. I prefer functional modifications. No big can to make noise or fancy lights under the car unless your taking it to a show in a trailer. But at the same time, I do not think that I will buy the brabus set-up for my car, because for the price I can have something made that is beter (lighter/stronger/more powerful).

Ah, come on guys. There's nothing like a $40 fart cannon ([:D][:D]) and big wing to really breathe new life into an old car. It worked for these, and it WILL work wonders for your benz...
