Transmission problems

I have just purchased a brand new 2006 model CLK 350 Cabriolet. It has done about 300 miles and the transmission jerks when it downshifts from 2 to 1. It uses the same gearbox as the SLK, E and ML class MB, the new 7G - Tronic. The other day when I was driving the car in automatic mode, it lost drive and just revved without any drive. When I put it into manual mode, it would only let me select 1st gear and reverse. I had to get the car towed to the local service dealer. They reset the computer, but this didn't do anything. The service center has no idea about such a problem with the new gearbox.
Could anyone with similar problems with their gearbox give me some advice on the problem?

RE: Transmission problems

Well the downshifting issue is a common one that I believe will go away once the transmission learns how you drive. As for the other part, that is a problem and I have no clue about it.

RE: Transmission problems

you might have a problem with the transmission control unit. The dealer can also try to update the software and perform adaptation on the system (learning mode) but if still problem is present the control unit should make this fault.

RE: Transmission problems

I bought a new CLK280 about 2 months ago. For the first few weeks it was fine, but gradually it developed a clunk as it changed down from 2nd to 1st, particualrly when it was cold and still on the choke. But it can also happen at full working temperature, for example when going down hill a steep hill. In fact I find the 7 speed gearbox randomly changes down and makes for a very uncomfortable drive even in C. On my old CLK 320 the tiptronic gear box was great. But on the new CLK280 the tiptronic lever is slightly off set so it's hard to 'tip' it down a gear; it's more like a physical gear change. My MB dealer has upgraded the gearbox software but that made no difference. Perhaps I should try them again.

I have a 2006 CLK Cabriolet with 14, 300 miles. Bought it new. For 3 years car has been great and fun to drive. Transmission started jerking, two weeks ago. Then one day it was in drive but I wasn't moving. It started changing gears for no reason etc. Took it to the dealer, they are replacing transmission and torque. They gave me a loaner. Car should be ready Monday. Been in shop since Tues.
