You could have deleted the post before you made yourself look stoopid, but nevermind. Now the subject is opened here, I seem to recall that when the 190 was launched it was heralded, perhaps by cynics,as the first Mercedes-Benz built down to a price, the first 'poor man's Mercedes'.
Conversely, many seem to think that the 126 was the zenith of Mercedes quality and engineering.
So are the two products worthy of close comparison?
Yes, 201s came to the US – they reflected the same old school MB engineering and design philosophy for excellent build quality. The M102 and 103 were among MBs best engines.
In the US, however, some took issue with a relatively pricey four-cylinder luxury car (or MB, perhaps).

"Mini 126?" That's a bit of an insult, since the W201 chassis was a completely new design, introducing the revolutionary 5-link rear suspension and laying the ground work for the W124. Let's not forget which chassis was used as the platform for Mercedes' return to circuit racing. [:D]
Take your point MTI. I think usage of the term "mini 126" was made in a complimentary fashion refering to the 190`s standard of build and engineering integrity and coming from the W126 forum there can be no higher endorsement.
