Sirius radio omitted from custom production

My new 2006 E500 arrived today and I was informed that there was a manufacturing error and the Sirius satellite radio was omitted. I had thought these were installed at the VPC, but am being told they are now included in the manufacturing process. The dealership says that they can't swap the unit out with one from inventory because the integrated wiring and harness are not present in the chassis. They are recommending an aftermarket unit....this totally stinks as I think it will junk up the dashboard.

I can't comprehend how an electronic order makes its way into the production cycle and there is no quality control to assure that the correct radio system is installed. I think there was a conscience decision made in Germany when production was scheduled and it was determined that the part was going to be unavailable when needed...they decided to reconfigure the selection on their own. Wouldn't you think that with the custom production of a $75K vehicle that the buyer would be asked whether they would prefer to delay production until the part was expected or proceed with the substitute?

Any recommendations on after market Sirius units and integration kits that would be inconspicuous?

Don't take delivery of the car. If it doesn't have the options that you ordered, why should you have to compromise? $75K is a lot of money-you should get what you paid for!

Could not agree more...tell the dealership, either trade the vehicle with another dealer with what you want on the car or don't accept delivery. It is not easy after a long wait, but why should you suffer with some after market system. Reorder the car with what you want and make sure they deliver it that way!

If it's not what you ordered, then why accept it ? Certainly, they can build you another, or compensate you for accepting something other than what you wanted.

Why should YOU compromise for a mistake made by MB ?

I hate to sound so mercenary, but geez - - you oughta get what you paid for.

Same thing just happened to me. The dealer is going to give me a new car. This is a big screw up as far as I am concerned.

I agree with the consensus.
Do not accept delivery of the car. I know it is hard to wait for another one.
Please do not let them get away with this.
