RE: Engine running temperature on W124 E320
87 degrees celsius is the normal OE temperature. In Norway the 91 degree stat is popular, and there are warmer OE thermostats available.
I would take the actual gauge temperature with a pinch of salt. If the coolant temperature really is 110 degrees, it should have a distinctly hot, rather burned smell, I hope you know what I mean. The actual temperatures in the gauge and in reality are almost never identical, but the gauge usually shows a wee bit lower.
The temp sensor might be sending the wrong value, and that could explain why the aux fan is running too much.
Use an electronic thermometer to verify the actual coolant temperature.
